As much as I wanted to ride today and continue my journey, I couldn’t help but stop because the current forecast for my projected finish was ALL rain. So by taking a day off and doing a little exploration, I’m hoping that the weather will pivot just like I am. Lisa Marie and I traveled north to Anacortes. We enjoyed the drive and got to see some more mountains off in the distance. Anacortes is a port town where most people travel to the San Juan Islands. A month ago when I was smoked out in Hamilton MT, one of my contingency routes took me through Anacortes and then back down to where I will finish. While in the town having lunch I kept hearing US military aircraft. From my vantage point I never saw them but I definitely heard them. As we were passing through deception State Park we stopped to take a picture of a beautiful overlook. Here Lisa Marie felt the need to dangle her legs over the edge and take a picture. Continuing south, we saw numerous Air Force jets flying in formation and what looked like practicing touch and go landings. This was all around the Naval Air Station, Whidbey Island. I assume the large presence was due to the close proximity to our northern border. Continuing south, those sights and sounds dissipated. It was a casual drive through small little towns and ultimately we looped back around and took a car ferry back to the mainland. I guess this was practice for tomorrow. The ferry system here around Seattle is a well oiled machine. We queued up in lines coming into the port town and then ultimately layered onto the boat very swiftly. Today’s passage was short and quick. Tomorrow I’ll resume the ride no matter what happens with the weather.
